Family-friendly leisure destination in Cheshire

Blakemere Village in Northwich, England, is not a single restaurant in the traditional sense, but a family-run leisure and shopping destination in the heart of the Cheshire countryside, offering a variety of dining and entertainment options. It combines a charming village atmosphere with over 20 independent shops, activities, and several dining establishments known for their diversity and quality. Notably, the culinary offerings at the "Village Restaurant & Coffee Bar," one of the central dining spots, as well as other dining options like "Steve’s Artisan Experience" and "The Wee Howff Craft Ale Bar," make Blakemere Village a popular place for food lovers and families seeking a relaxed meal in a rural setting.

Diverse dining options in the village

The "Village Restaurant & Coffee Bar" is the centerpiece of the culinary offerings, providing a wide range of dishes that appeal to both traditional and modern tastes. The generous breakfast, served with freshly prepared eggs, crispy bacon, and warm toast, is particularly highlighted—ideal for an energizing start to the day. For the main course, the "Carvery," a traditional British roast featuring slowly cooked meats like beef or turkey, accompanied by crispy roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables enhanced with rich gravy, is particularly tempting. Vegetarian options are also available, such as a hearty "Vegetable Pie," made with fresh ingredients and a creamy sauce. For dessert, the restaurant offers homemade cakes, including the popular "Chocolate Fudge Cake," which is a sweet treat served with warm chocolate sauce.

Rustic restaurant with traditional charm

In addition to the "Village Restaurant," there are other dining options that round out the experience. "Steve’s Artisan Experience" is a small café and deli specializing in local products and features an "Artisan Ploughman’s Lunch"—a platter with regional cheese, homemade chutneys, and fresh bread that captures the flavor of Cheshire. For beer lovers, "The Wee Howff Craft Ale Bar" offers a selection of craft-brewed ales that pair perfectly with light snacks like "Scotch Eggs," a boiled egg wrapped in spicy sausage and deep-fried. This variety allows guests to choose between relaxed dining, quick snacks, or a cozy drink, depending on their mood and occasion.

Sustainable dining with local ingredients

The atmosphere at Blakemere Village is unique and inviting. The "Village Restaurant" features an indoor area with rustic wooden elements and large windows that let in plenty of daylight, as well as an outdoor seating area that provides a picturesque view of the surrounding countryside when the weather is nice. The entire site is dog-friendly, making it particularly attractive to outdoor enthusiasts who want to bring their pets along. In addition to dining, there are activities such as falconry, Segway rides, and an indoor play area for children that complement the culinary experience with entertainment. The service is often described as friendly and attentive, emphasizing the relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere.

We had a great time, although it was extremely busy, which we expected as February half term always is. We were seated quickly as there were only two of us. We spent about two hours painting staff were busy but always polite they explained everything we needed to know. The problem is that when we go back to collect our painting, it's so hard not to do another one.

In December evening, we went to the Christmas Magical Wonderland. I would recommend wearing walking boots or wellies on your feet. It was filled with Magical Entertainment, with the lights, interactive characters, and everyone we came into contact with were amazing. We were skipping through the woods at one point and you can’t help but be captivated by it all. We went to the Birds of Prey and it was my first experience having an owl perched on my arm. The gentleman in charge of the Birds of Prey’s was extremely experienced & knowledgeable, and put me at ease. The whole evening was worth it and I can’t recommend enough. They certainly make it a Magical Wonderland.

Nice little afternoon out. Quite a few shops and many (paid for) activities available to families, and the restaurant serves good good at reasonable prices. The main reason for our visit was the antique shops x2, reclaim yard, and the collectors/antique emporium. Could spend hours in there!
